Wave of Harmony and Jazz Maui present An Evening of Big Band and Vocal Jazz, featuring the Jazz Maui Big Band and the Nā Aliʻi Big Band: an assembly of some of the very best professional musicians playing alongside some of Maui's finest voices. The program includes music from Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Gordon Goodwin, with vocal selections from Etta James, Shirley Horn, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra.


The Jazz Maui Big Band is led by Chicago-based saxophonist Craig Roselieb. Craig retired in 2018 from a 33-year career teaching high school bands in Downers Grove, Illinois. Now an active jazz saxophonist, teacher, clinician and composer, Craig performs weekly on alto saxophone with the Pete Ellman Big Band NFP in Naperville, IL. The band's latest album, Live at The Venue, features eight of his original jazz big band compositions, and the group has recently shared the stage with several jazz artists including Jeff Coffin, Dave Weckl, Louis Dowdswell, Bob Reynolds, Ernie Watts, Brad Goode, and Steve Wiest.


The Nā Aliʻi Big Band, under the direction of Casey Nagata, is one of Hawaiʻi's premier ensembles for traditional and contemporary big band-style jazz and swing. In recent years the band has collaborated with or opened for esteemed musicians including Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the Katie Thiroux Trio with Justin Kauflin, Tommy James of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis of the famed New Orleans Marsalis family, and New York-based jazz saxophonist Chad Lefkowitz-Brown. The Nā Aliʻi Big Band has performed around the U.S. and abroad.
